OneSoil News: October, 2019

The colder it gets, the more app updates there are! This month, we created a ruler to measure the area of field zones, added the field card feature and push notifications for Android, and fixed some bugs. We also hired a recruiter, so nothing can stop us now!

The colder it gets, the more app updates there are! This month, we created a ruler to measure the area of field zones, added the field card feature and push notifications for Android, and fixed some bugs. We also hired a recruiter, so nothing can stop us now!

What's new with the app?

⚡ We updated onboarding for Android and added it for iOS

Last month, we introduced onboarding for the Android app. Onboarding is our interactive help system that appears when you first register in the app. It's our way of welcoming you and showing you how things work.

In October, we introduced onboarding to the iOS app. In just one month, we were able to improve it thanks to our users' feedback! Send us your comments and suggestions in a Telegram chat! We read everything carefully.
⚡ Field card in the mobile app

Now you can store your yield data, add and edit crops, and monitor the weather forecast directly in the field card.

We've made checking the NDVI index easier, too. We added navigation arrows to quickly switch between dates and created an explanation of what each color on the index means. In addition to the weather forecast, we also display recommendations for the best time to spray plants.
⚡ Push notifications for Android app

A push notification pops up on your phone's screen to inform you of important events in your field. We'll tell you when new satellite images for your fields become available!

We use Sentinel-2 satellite images, which are updated every 3-5 days. You can use them to check new data on vegetation and monitor your plants' health.

P.S. Winter is coming, which means lots of cloudy days ahead. It also means that our field images may be updated less frequently due to cloud cover or snow. Subscribe to push notifications to get fresh images as they appear!
⚡ Switching languages in the mobile app

By default, OneSoil "talks" to you in your phone's default language. To change the language in our app, go to "Profile", select "Settings", and then "Language". Choose one of the available languages. We'll deliver all information/messages in that language (for example, our newsletter or push notifications).

⚡ Articles in Spanish for HelpDesk

OneSoil is becoming more international: we're expanding, which means articles about the platform on the HelpDesk are now available in Spanish!

⚡ Released several updates for the OneSoil web app

  • Ruler
Now you can find out the area of the entire field or its individual parts by measuring the distance between points on the map. We show the size of land parcels in the units of measurement you chose when setting up the app. To change them, go to app settings.

You can also measure the area of a field zone with a specific NDVI index. For example, if vegetation has abruptly lowered on a part of the field, you can determine the size of the problem zone.

  • Suggest your crop
If you didn't find your crop in the list of the ones we suggest, no problem. Go to field editing mode, click "My crop is not here", type in the one you need, and we'll add it to the general list!

I have more than 3 years of experience in hiring various specialists, from Junior to Lead and Architect positions in Frontend, Backend, iOS development, business analytics, testing, and administration.
I'm a big fan of statistics and analytics and I like working closely with marketing and PR. I've never worked in a startup before, so the opportunity to work with OneSoil is a welcome challenge for me. My work approach is based on openness, honesty, humanity and the desire to improve processes. I also like to surround myself with great people.

I travel a lot, often getting away for 3-4 days to a new country. My favorite cities are Berlin and London. They're where I feel the most energized. I enjoy quests, fiction books, movies, and TV shows, and I also practice power yoga. I may seem like an extrovert, but I'm actually a well-camouflaged introvert.
